The Regional Studies Center (RSC) held its latest closed monthly briefing on 24 February, with presentations by RSC Director Richard Giragosian and Senior Analyst David Shahnazaryan. This month’s briefing featured a comprehensive analysis consisting of two areas: (1) an analysis of domestic political developments, including the formation of a new pro-government coalition and the state of the opposition, and a focus on the process of electoral reform in the wake of the adoption of constitutional amendments; (2) an assessment of regional developments, including the escalating crisis between Russia and Turkey, recent developments related to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, and the outlook for the expansion of Armenian-Iranian relations.
Several ambassadors attended the briefing, including Italian Ambassador Giovanni Ricciulli, Japanese Ambassador Eiji Taguchi, Lithuanian Ambassador Erikas Petrikas, and UK Ambassador Judith Farnworth, as well as officials from the Embassies of Bulgaria, France, Germany, the Netherlands (visiting from Tbilisi), Poland, Romania, Switzerland, the United States, and the EU Delegation to Armenia, along with representatives from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) Office in Yerevan, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ).
As an independent “think tank,” the Regional Studies Center (RSC) offers a regular series of monthly briefings in order to serve as a resource for the diplomatic community and international organizations in Armenia by providing an alternative source of objective analysis and information on a regular basis.
