In a live interview with Poland’s TVP World news, host Diana Skaya spoke with RSC Director Richard Giragosian on 26 April in a segment entitled, “Armenia between Russia, EU and war.” The “TVP World Talks” program assessed Armenia’s position “at a political crossroads,” where “on one hand, Russia is openly hostile toward the European Union’s monitoring mission in the region and shows no intention of relinquishing its traditional sphere of influence. On the other, the country is gaining significant importance for Brussels, which is stepping up support for Armenia on security and democracy issues.
“Much of this EU engagement is driven by the unpredictability of the Trump administration, but also by the vacuum created in the wake of Russia’s weakness,” Giragosian argued. At the same time, Armenia is attempting to normalize relations with both Turkey and Azerbaijan. The key question now is what the upcoming parliamentary elections will bring — Armenians head to the polls on 7 June.
