RSC COMMENTARY FOR ESTONIAN PUBLIC TV

RSC COMMENTARY FOR ESTONIAN PUBLIC TV

In a two-part report from Armenia by Epp Ehand for Estonian Public TV, RSC Director Richard Giragosian provided commentary on recent developments related to the preliminary agreement on road and rail connectivity through southern Armenia.

Interviewed in the first report for Estonian Public TV on 29 August, Giragosian commented on the bilateral peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan, stating that “this is important for two reasons. First, Azerbaijan's return from military force to diplomacy is a welcome development. Second, at the same time, this breakthrough is notable for the absence of the Russian Federation.”

The second Estonian Public TV report, aired on 31 August, quoted Giragosian as saying that “we see two types of benefits for Armenia. First, the planned road and rail connections will help Armenia come out of isolation and become a transit country. Second, Azerbaijan was unable to impose an extraterritorial corridor, it is not a corridor, this road and rail connection is reciprocal, allowing Armenia to use it as much and frequently as Azerbaijan.”
